Didier Donfut has been member of the Belgian Federal Government since July 2004 as State Secretary for European Affairs. Originally a commercial engineer, he has been present on Belgium’s political scene for the last 25 years. His political career started in Frameries, his hometown, first as councillor of the Public Center for Social Action (from ‘82 to ‘88), then as municipal councillor (from ’88), as alderman (from ’90) and finally as mayor (since ’92). In ’89 he became member of the Belgian House of Representatives, and from ’95 to 2004 he was an active member of the Walloon Parliament, specialized in energy, housing and social integration issues. Following the June 2004 elections, he’s been appointed to the Belgian Federal Government. This enjoyable and open-hearted politician is the father of three children.
