Nancy Hughes Anthony

Nancy Hughes Anthony is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the 170,000-member Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canada’s largest and most representative national business association. In her capacity as President and CEO, Ms. Hughes Anthony is the principal spokesperson advocating the policy positions of the Canadian Chamber’s members to the federal government, international organizations, the media and the general public.

Prior to her arrival at the Canadian Chamber in 1998, Ms. Hughes Anthony gained senior experience in the federal and provincial governments as well as the private sector, having served as a federal deputy minister, a senior advisor to the government of Prince Edward Island and as a corporate vice-president.

Ms. Hughes Anthony is an Executive member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Business and Labour Centre, a member of the Board of Directors of HSBC Bank Canada and a member of the Advisory Council for Service Canada. She is Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) for Canada and a Governor of the Council for Canadian Unity.

Ms. Hughes Anthony is one of the first graduates of the Directors Education Program from the Corporate Governance College, created by the Institute of Corporate Directors in partnership with the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

A sought after speaker at national and international forums, Ms. Hughes Anthony is recognized by government and business as a leading voice on business issues. She has received the Women’s Executive Network Top 100 Most Powerful Women Award and has been selected several times by the National Post as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Business Women in Canada. According to the National Post, Ms. Hughes Anthony “is a woman with real clout,” and Association and Director Meeting Magazine has called her “one of Canada’s most influential association leaders.”

The Montreal-born Ms. Hughes Anthony graduated from McGill University with a general arts degree. She has lived and worked in Germany and in Mexico, and is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

Nancy Hughes Anthony est présidente et chef de la direction de la Chambre de commerce du Canada, l’association nationale de gens d’affaires la plus importante et la plus représentative du Canada, regroupant 170 000 membres. À ce titre, Mme Hughes Anthony est le principal porte-parole de la Chambre de commerce du Canada. Elle présente les  positions de principe des membres auprès du gouvernement fédéral, des organismes internationaux, des médias et du public.

Avant de se joindre à la Chambre de commerce du Canada en 1998, Mme Hughes Anthony a acquis une vaste expérience de cadre supérieur au sein des gouvernements fédéral et provincial et dans le secteur privé. Elle a été sous-ministre au gouvernement fédéral, conseillère principale auprès du gouvernement de l'Île du Prince-Édouard et vice présidente d’une entreprise.

Mme Hughes Anthony est membre exécutif du Conseil d’administration, patronat du Centre syndical et patronal du Canada, membre du Conseil d’administration de HSBC Banque Canada et membre du conseil consultatif de Service Canada. Elle est aussi présidente pour le Canada de la Chambre de commerce internationale, et administratrice du Conseil pour l’unité canadienne.

Nancy Hughes Anthony est une des premières diplômées du programme Formation des administrateurs du Corporate Governance College, partenariat entre l’Institut des administrateurs de sociétés et la Rotman School of Management (Université de Toronto). 

Souvent invitée à prendre la parole lors de forums nationaux et internationaux, Mme Hughes Anthony est reconnue par le gouvernement et les entreprises comme une experte sur les questions commerciales. Elle a été désignée l'une des femmes d’affaires les plus influentes du Canada par le Women's Executive Network et le National Post. Ce dernier qualifie Mme Hughes Anthony de femme possédant une grande autorité et l’Association and Director Meeting Magazine la considère comme un des chefs d’association les plus influents du Canada.

Née à Montréal, Mme Hughes Anthony a obtenu un baccalauréat ès arts de l’Université McGill. Elle a vécu et travaillé en Allemagne et au Mexique et parle couramment le français, l’anglais et l’espagnol.
