Mr. Ľudovít KANÍK
Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, and Family

He was born on 1st September 1965 in Hnúšťa, Rimavská Sobota District, and graduated from the Grammar School there. He continued his studies at the University of Economics in Bratislava, from which he graduated in 1988.

Immediately after completing his studies, he began working as the Head of the Financial Department of Banská Štiavnica Municipal Council. He completed a year of compulsory military service in Prešov.

From 1990 to 1991, he worked as the Director of the Department of Small-Scale Privatisation and Auctions of the Ministry for the Administration and Privatisation of National Property of the Slovak Republic. Between 1992 and 1998, he held various executive managerial positions in the private sector.

In 1998, he was appointed President of the National Property Fund of the Slovak Republic. Over his one-year term of office, he managed to resolve some of the most significant privatisation scandals that had emerged over the preceding period, such as the privatisation of Nafta Gbely, Kúpele Piešťany, Istrochem Bratislava, Kúpele Sliač Kováčová, and other enterprises. After leaving the National Property Fund, he worked as a manager in the private sector.

He is married, has three children, and lives in Banská Štiavnica.
