Emmanuel Kontopirakis,
Ph.D.Secretary General, National Statistical Service of Greece

Emmanuel Kontopirakis, born on 1947, in Crete. He graduated from City College of City University of New York with a Master of Arts in Mathematics, carry on with a Ph.D. in Mathematics at Courant Institute of New York University. His area of specialization & research is analysis and probability.
 
On March 2004 he was appointed as Secretary General of the National Statistical Service of Greece (NSSG). He joined the NSSG for first time on 1990 where he served as a Secretary General for three years.

Since 1984, he is Professor of Mathematics at Cooper Union School of Engineering in N.Y, being on leave of absence since 2004. His academic career starts on 1974 as an Associate Professor of Mathematics at State University of New York at Fermingdale.

He has been consultant to the Greek Ministry of Education, the Department of Equal Opportunity of New York State Programs for minorities, the Department of Secondary Education of the City of New York and for various companies in New York City. He has also joined the Commodities department of Merrill Lynch.

Prof. Kontopirakis’ name appears twice in the list of “Best Scientific Coaches” for the National Competition in Mathematical Modeling of USA. His name is also included three times in the “Who is Who among American Teachers” publication.
