Executive Director and Co-Founder of The Lisbon Council for Economic Competitiveness and Social Renewal asbl, a think tank and policy network committed to raising European competitiveness, encouraging economic growth, promoting structural reform, creating jobs and working towards a better, more prosperous future. Incorporated in Belgium as an independent, non-profit and non-partisan association, the Lisbon Council is among Europe’s most authoritative and thoughtful voices on economic reform and social renewal.

An experienced journalist and editor, Mr. Hofheinz frequently appears on CNBC and BBC as a commentator on economic reform and European politics. To date, he has written for or been published in more than four dozen newspapers and academic journals, including Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Le Figaro, Le Monde, Trends/Tendances (Belgium), Time, Newsweek, Cinco Dias and The Straits Times (Singapore).

Before leaving journalism to launch the Lisbon Council, Mr. Hofheinz worked as a writer and editor at The Wall Street Journal Europe, covering such diverse topics as financial-market regulation, emerging-market strategy and Russian politics. Mr. Hofheinz also served two years as managing editor of Central European Economic Review, a monthly supplement to The Wall Street Journal Europe devoted to economic news from Central and Eastern Europe. Mr. Hofheinz also served four years as associate editor of Fortune, including a two-year stint as Moscow bureau chief. He began his journalistic career in London as a reporter for Time.

Mr. Hofheinz holds a Master of Science Degree in Russian Politics from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale University, where he received the prestigious John Addison Porter Prize upon graduation. In 1992, he also received the Olive Branch Award from New York University’s Center for War, Peace and Media Studies for his coverage of the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union. He speaks fluent English, Russian and French.
