Henning Hansen,

Henning Hansen,
Co-ordinator, International Federation of Environmental Health

Henning I. Hansen is Coordinator of the IFEH Sustainability Indicator Initiative (SII) and a

member of the IFEH Council on behalf of The Danish Association of Environment and Nature Protection Officers - ENVINA Denmark.

As a professional body he is an Environmental Protection Officer, BSc, Eng (hon.) at Aarhus Municipality (Denmark).

In the period 1994 - 2002 Henning Hansen was the president of The Danish Association of Environmental Protection Officers. Starting in 1995 he was very dedicated to establish a common monitoring system on the use of indicators in Denmark at the local level which by the help of environmental indicator practionairs in many Danish municipalities and by the aid of the Danish EPA resulted in guideline no. 7 / 1997 for the Danish Ministry of the Environment /DEPA title: “Guideline on environmental indicators – a tool to monitor and to visualize the environmental performance.”

The Danish organisation back in 1996 became a member of the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) and it was recognized that the lack of using indicators, especially at the local level, was in fact a World Wide challenge. On that basis the IFEH in 2000 started a project on Sustainability Indicators.

By 2006 the IFEH went into collaboration with the IISD (International Institute of Sustainable Development). The IISD is running a Global Compendium on indicator initiatives http://www.iisd.org/measure/compendium  - and now all inputs to the IFEH initiative (IFEH Sustainability Indicators Initiative - SII) are being assembled in a common database hosted by the IISD.
