The External Statistics Division is responsible for compiling, disseminating and improving the euro area external statistics, indicators and related information services. These statistics include the balance of payments (including its seasonal adjustment and its monetary presentation), the international investment position, foreign reserves and related assets, and other external statistics, including effective exchange rates and statistics on the international role of the euro and on securities settlements systems. The Division is also responsible for the centralised securities database (CSDB). It relies on source data that are mainly provided by the NCBs and, where appropriate, Eurostat (e.g. external trade statistics) and acts as an interface between users and producers in the field of external statistics. It coordinates further harmonisation of external statistics across the EU and takes part in related activities in international fora. The Division is assisted by the ESCB Working Group on Balance of Payments and External Reserves Statistics
