Brigitte Neumann is the Executive Director of the NS Advisory Council on the Status of Women.  She is trained as a sociologist, and is finishing her 3rd decade in the public service of Nova Scotia. She has done research in areas such as immigration, health services, and community participation, as well as program evaluation and research in prevention and treatment of drug dependency.

Currently, Brigitte Neumann is Co-Director of the Healthy Balance Research Program, a 5-year research initiative funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.  The program examines women’s work, both paid and unpaid, its health impacts and the policy options to better support women as mothers and caregivers.

She is also active in promoting women’s participation in electoral politics, and in promoting the principles of gender equity, cultural diversity and social inclusion in the legislation, policies and programs of the Province of Nova Scotia.

Brigitte Neumann has served eight successive Status of Women Ministers and has been Nova Scotia’s senior status of women official for 16 years.
