Dr Richard Denniss is Deputy Director of The Australia Institute, a public interest think tank based in the national capital of Canberra. An economist by training Richard is particularly interested in the development of new macro measures to guide policy development and implementation. He has published a number of articles and monographs on new measures of national well being based around the construction of the Genuine Progress Indicator for Australia. He is also interested in the development of new indicators for the modern labour market. Prior to his current position Richard worked as Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Australian Democrats, the party that holds the balnce of power in Australia's upper house. Richard also lectured economics at the University of Newcastle and still lectures on a part time basis at the Australian National University.
