Ph.D in economics from Stanford University, California in USA 1970.

1970-1979: Head of Division, Deputy Director and Deputy Director General in the Planning Department and the Budget Department in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance.

1979-1986:  Director General in the Economic Policy Department of the Norwegian Ministry of Finance.

1986-1989: Norwegian ambassador to the OECD.

1989- 1997: Chief Economic Adviser in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance.

1990-2000: Part time professor of economics at the Bodø Business School.

1998-2002: Deputy Secretary General at the OECD.

2002 -  Deputy Secretary General in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance.

2002 -  Head of the Norwegian Delegation to the Economic Policy Committee at the OECD.
