Mark Landler is the European Economic Correspondent of The New York Times, based in Frankfurt. He covers economic news throughout Europe, as well as political, social, and cultural stories in Germany. Prior to taking up his present post in July 2002, Mr. Landler was the paper's Hong Kong Bureau Chief, from 1998 to 2002. He reported from 17 countries in South and East Asia, ranging from Afghanistan to Indonesia. Mr. Landler joined The Times in 1995 as a reporter in Business Day, covering the media business and telecommunications. From 1990 to 1995, he was a reporter and editor at Business Week magazine. Mr. Landler began his career at The Times in 1987 as a copy boy and member of the Writing Program. He is a 1987 graduate of Georgetown University and was a Reuter Fellow at Oxford University in 1997.
