Jan Frait was born in Czechoslovakia in 1965. During the first stage of his professional life he pursued an academic career at Technical University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. In 2002 he was appointed Professor of economics.

 

He was appointed a member of the Czech National Bank Board for the period 2000-2006. Within the Czech National Bank, he was first responsible for the oversight of payments systems and currency circulation, then for monetary policy and statistics. In this capacity, he was the member of the OECD Economic Policy Committee in 2005 and 2006. In 2002-2003 he served as the president of the Czech Economics Association.

 

From 2007 he has been the Advisor to the board of the Czech National Bank and the Deputy Head of the research and financial stability department. His prime responsibility is the financial stability analysis. In this capacity, he acts as the alternate member of the ECB’s Banking Supervision Committee.
