Thierry Breton

Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industry, France

Born in 1955, Thierry Breton was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of France Télécom from 2 October 2002 until 27 February 2005.

Before carrying out these duties, Thierry Breton was Chairman of Thomson multimédia S.A. from 1977 until September 2002, a member of the Executive Board of Groupe Bull from 1993 to 1997, and Vice-Chairman of the Managing Board of Groupe Bull as from November 1995.

Before that, Thierry Breton was Director-General of CGI, a service development company, from 1990 to March 1993, Director-General of Futuroscope from 1986 to 1990. and Director-General of Forma Systems,a company analysing computer engineering systems, from 1981 to 1986.

He has been Chairman of the Managing Board of Orange S.A. and of TSA (formerly Thomson S.A.).  Thierry Breton has also held the post of administrator at Thomson (formerly Thomson multimédia), Schneider Electric and Dexia (Belgium).

He has been a member of the Governing Board of Axa.

Thierry Breton is a graduate of the École supérieure d’électricité (Supelec) de Paris and of the Institut des Hautes Études de Défense nationale (IHEDN – 46e session).

He is a Chevalier in the Ordre national de la Légion d’Honneur and an Officer in the National Order of Merit.
