Anne Lauvergeon is a graduate of the École des mines and the École normale supérieure and also holds an advanced degree in physics. She started her professional career in 1983 with Usinor.
In 1984 she directed research into chemical safety issues in Europe at the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique (CEA). From 1985 to 1988, she was in charge of the administration of subsoil assets in the Île-de-France region. In 1988 she was appointed deputy director of the General Mining Council.
In 1990, Anne Lauvergeon was appointed advisor on International Economic Affairs and Foreign Trade to the French President and in 1991 was made deputy chief of Staff and the President’s personal representative (sherpa) for the organisation of international summits (G7).
In 1995, she became a partner of Lazard Frères & Cie in Paris, spending several months in their New York offices.
In March 1997, she was appointed deputy director-general of Alcatel Télécom. In July 1998 she became a member of the Executive Committee of the Alcatel Group. She is in charge of the Group’s Industrial Shareholdings sector with regard to the defence, energy, transport and nuclear industries (Thomson, CSF, Alstom, Framatome); she also supervises all the Group’s international activities.
In June 1999 she was appointed chairwoman and CEO of AREVA NC.
Since 3 July 2001, Anne Lauvergeon has been Chairman of the Board of AREVA.
