Dennis Trewin, Australian Statistician, has been head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics since July 2000.  Prior to that he was Deputy Australian Statistician and, from 1992 to 1995, Deputy Government Statistician in New Zealand.

He holds other senior appointments in Australia such as Electoral Commissioner and an Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University.  He is also a member of the Committee charged with responsibility for producing an independent report on the State of the Environment.

Internationally, he has just completed a term as President of the International Statistical Institute having previously been Vice-President and President of the International Association of Survey Statisticians.  He is a past Editor of the International Statistical Review.

He is Chairman of the Global Executive Board of the International Comparison Program and is a member of the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians.  He is Chairman of the Asia/Pacific Committee of Statistics.
