Current Position

Senior Advisor to the Chilean Minister of Finance

Coordinator for International Organizations, Ministry of Finance
Since March 2003

In this capacity he represents the Ministry before international organizations such as the IMF, World Bank, OECD, Inter American Development Bank, and others.  Co-chair of the Task Force that prepared the Policy Framework for Investment under the auspices of the Investment Committee of the OECD. He also represented the Ministry in the Board of Directors of the National Railway Company, the Santiago Metro, and a regional transportation company.

Previous Positions

International Monetary Fund (1997-1980 and 1982-2002)

Resigned from the IMF in 2002 after twenty years in the staff, having reached the position of Deputy Division Chief and Resident Representative in Ecuador and Venezuela. During those twenty years he worked as an economist on issues relating to the development of the SDR, and later on country matters mostly in Latin America. As a Senior Economist he led missions and negotiation teams, and helped governments deal with financial crisis and external shocks. As part of the IMF´s technical assistance programs he was economic advisor to the President of Nicaragua, Mrs. Violeta Chamorro.  Before joining the IMF staff he was an Advisor to the Executive Director who represented the Southern Cone countries of South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay)

Private Sector and Other Activities

Independent consultant in project management and financial advisor to a number of private Chilean companies, mainly in real estate development and the financial sector.

Board member and Treasurer of Academia Cotopaxi (Quito, Ecuador).

Taught at the University of Chile and while working at the IMF gave guest lectures at Georgetown University, George Washington University, and American University.

Wrote numerous articles on economic and financial issues, including a monthly column on domestic and international economic issues for an Internet-based news forum known as the Enterpreuner´s Club (Club de Emprendedores), 2000-03.

Member of the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce, 1993 -1998.
