Mr. Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD, was on an official visit to Madrid from 27 February to 2 March 2015. Mr. Gurría received a Doctorado Honoris Causa from the Universidad Europea de Madrid and the Nueva Economía Award, granted by the Nueva Economía Forum.
During his visit, the Secretary-General presented the Environmental Performance Review of Spain, alongside Ms. Isabel García Tejerina, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Environmental Affairs. He also attended an inter-ministerial meeting to discuss OECD’s support to the design of a Skills Strategy for Spain. Mr. Gurría also participated in a dialogue on the prospects of the world economy, in Casa América, together with Mr. José Manuel García-Margallo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
The Secretary-General held bilateral meetings with Mr. Mariano Rajoy, Prime Minister of Spain, Mrs. Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, Vice President of the Government, as well as with several Ministers and high level officials with whom he discussed OECD’s collaboration and support to the recovery of the Spanish economy. He also met with business and trade union representatives.
