Making Migration Work for Development
How can the positive impact of migration be maximised? Return and circular migration can benefit sending regions through increased remittances and knowledge spillovers, with positive repercussions on earnings mobility and entrepreneurship. However, those left behind (e.g. children, women and the elderly) are often dependent and at risk. Our work on migration management provided an input to this year’s Global Forum on Migration & Development. Governments agreed that both sending and receiving countries need to work together to derive maximum benefit from international labour mobility.	Global Forum on Migration and Development.

Gender Equality: A Key for Development
Gender equality promotes growth and development (see chart). It is, therefore, urgent and essential to be able to track it. This means statistics. The critical role of gender statistics will be the centrepiece discussion at a 1-day workshop on “Measuring, Managing and Evaluating Gender Equality” on 20 November 2008. The workshop will build on last year’s Experts Meeting on Measuring Gender Equality and our ongoing work on the Gender, Institutions and Development Database It will also offer an occasion to present our improved Wikigender platform, which will be released in its beta version on the same day.
