Welcome from the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos
I would like to extend my warmest greetings to everyone taking part in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD’s) Social Policy Forum and Ministerial Meeting in Montréal, Canada, on May 14–15, 2018. The theme for these events is "Social Policy for Shared Prosperity: Embracing the Future".
Along with OECD Secretary General Angel Gurría and vice-chairs from Sweden, Portugal and Greece, I would like to give a special welcome to all delegates, and particularly those who will be joining us from abroad. Your presence at these events will enrich the discussion around important issues that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world.
Governments face immense economic and social opportunities and challenges caused by technological changes, globalization and population aging. In this context, it is important that we work collaboratively with all levels of government, businesses, civil society and citizens to provide a better future for all.
The OECD's Social Policy Forum and Ministerial Meeting will examine best practices in addressing social policy challenges and will explore forward-looking policies that promote diversity, social inclusion, equality of opportunity and productive partnerships with non-government actors. The Ministerial Meeting plays a key role in guiding future OECD work on social policy and the event will help governments lay the foundation for inclusive societies that provide all citizens with a real and fair chance to succeed.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I look forward to welcoming you to Montréal and joining this important conversation.
Minister Jean-Yves Duclos,
Chair of the 2018 OECD Social Policy Forum and Ministerial Meeting
