Dr. Ricardo Paes de Barros was graduated from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA) in 1977. He received a Master degree in Statistics from the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in 1982. He received a Doctoral degree from de Center for Research in Economics from the Chicago University in 1988 as well from the Center for Economic Growth from the Yale University in the following year.
Since 1979, Dr. Paes de Barros has dedicated his career as researcher from the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) focused on social inequality, education, poverty, labor market in Brazil as well as in Latin America. During the period 1990 to 1996, he was a visiting professor at Yale University. Between 1999 and 2002, he was director of the Board of Social Studies at IPEA’s Institute.
From 1995 to 2000, Dr. Paes de Barros was awarded Haralambos Simedionis and received the Mario Henrique Simonsen award in 2000. In 2005, he was admitted to the National Order of Scientific Merit in the category of Commander. In 2010 he was appointed member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
This year, Dr. Paes de Barros was appointed the Secretary of Strategic Actions at the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic (SAE/PR). In addition to Portuguese Dr. Paes de Barros speaks English and Spanish.
