Pieter Mulder was appointed Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in July 2009. He is also the leader of the Freedom Front political party.

Dr Mulder's academic background is in communications. He is a graduate of Potchefstroom University and the University of Wisconsin, and in 1984 he became Professor and Head of the Department of Communication at Potchefstroom University.

First elected to South Africa's National Assembly in 1994, Dr Mulder is his party's parliamentary spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Communication.
