Alexander Petrikov became State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Agriculture in December 2007.

Mr Petrikov's academic background is in economics; he graduated with a PhD from Moscow State University. From 1984 to 1990 he was a scientific secretary with the Russian Agricultural Academy. Between 1990 and 1996 Mr Petrikov worked at an agrarian institute in Moscow, first as a senior officer and then as Deputy Director.

Prior to his ministerial appointment he had served for eleven years as director of Russia's institute for agrarian problems and informatics, based in Moscow.
