Professor André N. van der Zande was appointed Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in May 2007.
Prior to this appointment, he served as Director-General at the ministry for five years, with responsibility for rural, nature and regional policy, general environmental policy and manure policy.
He is a professor at the University of Wageningen, where he occupies the Belvedere Chair for Spatial Planning and Cultural Heritage.
