Yasue Funayama became Vice Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in September 2009.
A graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University, Ms Funayama joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 1990. After ten years of service she left the ministry to take up the position of Executive Director of Oguni Gas Energy Company.
Ms Funayama was elected to the House of Councillors, the upper house of the Japanese parliament, in July 2007.
