Shalom Simhon was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in March 2006, having previously held the post from March 2001 to March 2003. He also served as Minister of Environment Protection between January and November of 2005.
A member of the Knessut since 1996, Mr Simhon has chaired the Agriculture, Water, Finance and Economic committees during his parliamentary career. He has also been a member of the parliamentary committees on Health, Foreign Affairs and Defence, Housing, and the Budget.
Since the mid-1980s, Mr Simhon has been a prominent elected official of the Tnuat-Hamoshavim, a cooperative organisation of 450 family farm villages.
