Ilse Aigner became Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in November 2008. 

Ms Aigner has been a Member of the Bundestag (Federal Parliament) since 1998. Among her roles in this time, she has served on the Budget Committee (as Rapporteur for the departmental budget of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, where she is now Minister) and chaired the Working Group on Education and Research. Prior to her election to Federal Parliament, Ms Aigner was a Member of Parliament in the region of Bavaria between 1994 and 1998.


A qualified electrical engineer, Ms Aigner's professional background is in the development of system electronics for helicopters.
