Mr Jiří Šír

Jiří Šír is the advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and is also Chairman of the Group on Strategic Issues in Agriculture.

During the Czech Republic's presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2009, Mr Šír was Chairman of the Special Committee on Agriculture of the EU Council. He had been the Czech representative on this committee since 2003 while serving in the Czech Republic's Permanent Delegation to the EU.

Mr Šír graduated with an M.Sc. from the Agricultural Faculty of the University of South Bohemia. During his early career at the Ministry of Agriculture he was a member of the negotiation team for accession to the European Union.
