Marigen Hornkohl Venegas became Minister of Agriculture in January 2008. Prior to this appointment, she was the Ambassador of Chile in Germany for almost two years. She also served as Minister of Education in 2005.

Between 1995 and 1999 Ms Hornkohl Venegas was Head of Cabinet in the Ministry of Justice. She then held the positions of Undersecretary of Social Security from 2000 to 2003 and Undersecretary of Education from 2003 to 2005.

Ms Hornkohl Venegas graduated from the Chilean State University as a social worker, before studying history at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.
