Regional Food Reserve
As main component of the ECOWAS Regional Food Reserve Strategy, this instrument of regional solidarity constitutes a third line of response to crises, after local/community and national food reserves. Adopted by ECOWAS in 2010, it is part of the Regional Agricultural Investment Programme (RAIP) resulting from the ECOWAP/CAADP process. It offers a framework of convergence for all initiatives in this area (RESOGEST, UEMOA, etc.), aiming, among others, to build a network of national food reserve agencies to improve co-operation and information-sharing. The establishment of the Regional Food Reserve benefits from the political support of the international community through the G20.
