The OECD and the World Bank - at the occasion of the OECD/IOPS Global Forum on Private Pensions, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - today announced the preliminary results of their project evaluating the financial performance of pension funds around the world.

This working paper discusses responses to current finanical and economic crisis by regulators, supervisors and policy makers in the area of private pensions. These responses are examined in the light of international guidelines, best practices and recommendations to improve the design of private pensions.
Following up the IOPS Technical Committee meeting held on 23 March 2009, the First CEEC Forum Conference was organised on 24 March 2009 in Budapest, Hungary.

The OECD/IOPS MENA Workshop on pension regulation and supervision was held in Cairo, Egypt on 2-3 February 2009. This workshop was hosted by the Egyptian Insurance Supervisory Authority.
The 2008 OECD/IOPS Global Forum on Private Pensions addressed a wide range of issues of high relevance to national policy debate on retirement savings in both developed and emerging economies. Special attention was devoted to developments in the pension industry on the African continent.

The OECD and the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) held a public consultation until 5 October 2007 to seek the views of stakeholders in private pension systems on the draft text of the Guidelines on the Licensing of Pension Entities, developed jointly by the OECD and the IOPS. Comments were received from many areas of expertise and were taken into account in the drafting of the final version of the Guidelines.
