Helen Higson

 

Helen Higson was born in Winchester.  She graduated from Cambridge University and has subsequently studied for an MA degree with the Open University and a PhD at London University.  Before moving to Aston in 1985 she was manager of a family-run bookshop and worked at the University of Southampton.  On her arrival at Aston she worked for the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Planning Office.  She moved to ABS 20 years ago (8th March 1988) and has since run the UG Office, finishing as Associate Dean.  Helen also founded the School’s Quality Unit and is founding convenor of the Research Centre in Higher Education Learning and Management (HELM).  Since May 2007 she has been Pro-Vice-Chancellor International Relations on a part time basis.  She took on the role of Head of Learning and Teaching on 1st January 2008.  Her main interests outside work are the theatre and opera.
