Session 6: Fiscal policy, budget consolidation and inclusive long-term growth

Session 6: Fiscal policy, budget consolidation and inclusive long-term growth

Summary: The global crisis has wreaked havoc in the public finances of several countries, where substantial fiscal consolidation will be needed over the medium-to-longer term. How can the impact of consolidation on growth be minimised? How can fiscal institutions be strengthened in support of consolidation? With the need to service higher deficits, how can the efficiency and inclusiveness of non-debt-servicing pro-growth expenditures be enhanced?

Speaker: Eugene Steuerle (Urban Institute) powerpoint
Discussants: Gordon Boissonneault (Finance Counsellor, Canadian Delegation to the OECD) and Eduardo Ley (WB-PRMED) powerpoint
