04/07/2017 - Annual inflation in the OECD area slowed to 2.1% in May 2017, compared with 2.4% in April 2017. Energy prices rose at a slower pace (5.6%) in the year to May than in the year to April 2017 (8.2%), thus continuing to exert downward pressure on the overall inflation rate. On the other hand, this was partially offset by food price inflation, which picked up to 1.6% in May, compared with 1.1% in April. Excluding food and energy, inflation in the OECD area marginally slowed to 1.8%, compared with 1.9% in April.
