OECD Expert Workshop on Patent Practice and Innovation: Agenda and presentations

This symposium will highlight some of the key results from ongoing OECD work on innovative technologies for tackling major societal challenges. Specifically, it draws on a series of five special workshops organised in the first half of 2012 which examined space technologies’ current and future contribution to surveillance and early warning on global threats.
This conference aimed to provide policy-makers with evidence and tools to measure the economic impact of ICTs, assess the effectiveness of their current policies and feed into the ICT policy agenda for the years to come.
This event was the first time the OECD has taken a systematic look at what marine biotechnology could contribute to the grand challenges of food and fuel security, population health, green growth and sustainable industries.
This event explored the prospects of providing innovative, actionable information and advice to policymakers and other stakeholders, based on the results of contemporary research on complex dynamic systems.
The conference will cover developments and the state-of-the art of environmental microbiology, as it is applied for biotechnological purposes, and the role of genetic engineering of micro-organisms intended for use in the environment, now and in the near future.
The Forum will explore topics such as regulatory considerations, skills and research support, intellectual property and community engagement. In addition, discussions will also focus on links between a ‘bioeconomy’ and synthetic biology.
