Build your local development capacities

The OECD expands its capacity building agenda for local development: the best policy reforms will fail if no effective mechanisms are in place to deliver them. The OECD has enhanced its partnership with Italy and scaled up its effort to close the implementation gap in OECD Member and non-Member countries.

The mandate of the OECD Trento Centre for Local Development has been renewed until 2020 and a new satellite office was established in Venice to increase the capacity building offer. The Trento Centre and its Venice office are part of the OECD LEED Programme (Local Economic and Employment Development). The Centre will offer a rich institution and capacity building agenda dedicated to policy makers and practitioners in the fields of employment and skills, entrepreneurship, social economy and smarter local development allowing them to acquire practical knowledge needed to achieve policy goals.

Through its activities the OECD Trento Centre for Local Development seeks to provide policy advice and develop capacities for the effective design and implementation of policies that are tailored to local needs and focused on the key drivers of local economic growth and well-being in OECD Member and non-Member countries.

The way forward around two main pillars

Capacity Building

Capacity building is creating, developing and strengthening the abilities of organisations, communities and individuals to confront challenges and achieve goals, work collectively across institutional lines and policy silos and develop synergies.

Spatial Productivity Lab (SPL)‌‌‌

Today, OECD countries face two major productivity challenges, decreasing growth and increasing inequality. The main question for the Spatial Productivity Lab is how regional, rural and urban policy can help find a more inclusive and dynamic system for economic growth.
