Have your say on www.whoseownership.org

24-Jul-2008

The principle of “ownership” will be at the heart of intergovernmental talks on aid effectiveness in Accra this September. Ahead of the Forum, the governments of Colombia and Switzerland, together with the OECD Development Centre, would welcome your views on how to put the principle into practice. With just one month to go before the Forum, this may be your last chance to contribute to its preparations.

Policy Brief : Babies and Bosses: Balancing work and family life

25-Jul-2008

Are work and family life compatible? The answer is yes, but it is not always that easy. As a result, it is becoming increasingly common to start a family later, have fewer children or have no children at all. Alternatively some parents may choose to temporarily or permanently stop working.

Economic Assessment of Indonesia, 2008 (Policy Brief)

24-Jul-2008

Indonesia’s economic performance has improved markedly over the last few years. The economy has recovered in earnest from the 1997-98 financial crisis, and GDP growth has been around 5½ per cent per year since 2004. This rate is below that of some regional peers, but high enough to deliver broad-based improvements in living standards. The contribution of private consumption has trended up, especially since 2004, on the back of robust credit creation.

Economic Survey of Turkey, 2008 (Policy Brief)

17-Jul-2008

Far-reaching institutional and structural reforms following the 2001 crisis underpinned an unprecedented period of high growth until 2007. More recently, however, tensions arose and growth slowed down as a result of loss of competitiveness in large areas of the economy, the deterioration of international conditions, and a weakening of confidence domestically. New government initiatives to strengthen the macroeconomic policy framework, and upgrade the competitiveness of industry and its capacity to create jobs, would help the economy resume a stronger growth course.

Economic Assessment of South Africa, 2008 (Policy Brief)

15-Jul-2008

The democratically elected government that came to power in 1994 inherited an economy wracked by long years of internal conflict and external sanctions. Against that backdrop, economic performance since 1994 has been impressive. In particular, the successive governments during that period have shown considerable prudence, refraining from resorting to economic populism in an effort to boost short-term growth. As a result, public finances were stabilised, inflation was brought down, foreign capital was attracted in growing amounts, and economic growth, after lagging for a time, improved.

Competition Law and Policy in Ukraine (Policy Brief)

07-Jul-2008

Ukrainian competition policy dates back to February 1992, shortly after independence from the Soviet Union, when the country’s first competition law was adopted as part of the effort to establish a market-based economy. The 2001 Law on the Protection of Economic Competition is the principal vehicle for competition law enforcement, and the 1996 Law on Protection against Unfair Competition deals with conduct by one company intended to exploit or injure the competitive vitality of a competing enterprise.
