The OECD interviewed Dr. Solomon Nwaka of the WHO about the need for new medicines for neglected diseases that primarily affect developing countries.
Dr. Nwaka explains in this pod cast what diseases have been neglected and why, how pharmaceutical companies are instrumental in the discovery and development of new medicines for such diseases, the role of governments in providing incentives to invest in the complex R&D, and how capacity building in developing countries is key to ensuring that the medicines are appropriate to the target populations.
