Food security: West African Futures
The Club’s work focuses on settlement trends and market dynamics, analysing how these two factors impact agricultural activities and food security conditions in West Africa. A Working Group comprised of key stakeholders is at the centre of the entire process.

Food crisis prevention and management
Within the framework of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) and under the auspices of ECOWAS, the CILSS and the SWAC Secretariat facilitate the adoption of the new “Charter for Food Crisis Prevention and Management.” Moreover, they provide support for an ECOWAS/UEMOA initiative to set-up a regional food security stock.

Security and development
The increase in instability and the hybridization of trafficking and violence call for policies that link security and development. The underlying dynamics can no longer be confined to the West African region. Through a regional analysis of recent tensions, the SWAC Secretariat aims at promoting dialogue and improving the understanding of West African security issues in relation to Africa and OECD member countries.

Energy
The primary work objective is to develop a common vision (ECOWAS/UEMOA/CILSS) for the renewable energy sector and policy tools. Bringing together key stakeholders, including the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Regional Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), SWAC work draws particularly on lessons from Brazil’s bioenergy experience and OECD work on “green growth.” > SWAC Forum on Renewable Energy
