Governance of Public Finance

 

The Regional Working Group on Governance of Public Finance addresses a wide variety of policy issues related to improving the governance of public finance in Arab countries.

At the GfD Initiative’s Launching Conference, participants agreed on a first set of policy issues to be considered. During the First Meeting of the Initiative’s Steering Group on 27-28 April 2005, these were refined into a “Framework for Policy Dialogue” wich will serve to guide the initial Stocktaking Phase.

The Working Group is chaired by Mr. Yousef Boutros Ghali, Minister of Finance, Egypt, and co-chaired by Mr. Daniel Bergvall, Senior Administrative Officer, Budget Department, Ministry of Finance, Sweden as well as Ms. Christa Capozzola, Chief of the Economic Affairs Branch, US Office of Management and Budget, Executive Office of the President (see Arab Chairs & OECD Co-chairs).

Its First Meeting took place on 1-3 October 2005 in Cairo, Egypt. At this meeting it was explored whether a Regional Financial Management Training Center should be created in Cairo, for which the OECD Secretariat has now carried out a Feasibility Assessment.

The Second Meeting of this GfD Working Group took place on 7-8 May 2006 in Cairo, Egypt.

The Working Group's Third Meeting took place on 30 May 2007 in Istanbul, Turkey.

A meeting concerning Evaluating Innovative Approaches to Public Service Delivery was organised on 30-31 October 2007 in Madrid, Spain.

Arab countries participated in the Senior Budget Officials Symposium on Public-Private Partnerships on 21-22 February 2008 in Zürich, Switzerland.

The Fourth Meeting of this GfD Working Group took place on 20 May 2008 in Rabat, Morocco.

Symposium on Public-Private Partnerships was organised on 20-21 May 2008 in Rabat, Morocco.

The First MENA Senior Budget Officials Meeting was held on 24-25 November 2008 in Cairo, Egypt.
