Working Group 2 (WG2) contributes to building a positive image of the MENA region, through multi-stakeholder dialogue and sharing of good practices between the MENA and OECD countries, private sector, civil society and other partners. It seeks to identify success stories and assess weaknesses where OECD and other partners can help identify solutions and provide practical policy advice to governments. WG2 will work closely with the other WGs addressing issues relevant to Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs). Important partner organisations include, inter alia, the World Bank, WAIPA, UNIDO, Arab League, ANIMA, Inter-Arab Investment Guarantee Corporation, and Union of Arab Banks.
Several output areas have been agreed upon as result of the WG meetings: (i) An effective communication/information tool and assessment of “Who is doing What”, and an assessment of challenges faces by MENA IPAs and development of investment promotion guidelines for the MENA region, (ii) assessing incentives-based strategies to attract investment to the MENA region and investment success stories in the MENA region, (iii) regional network of business associations and organisation of a MENA investment summit, and (iv) improving international investment statistics.
