Investment
For the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), private investment, both domestic and foreign, is needed to provide new engines of growth and dynamism. The biggest challenge for MENA countries lies in strengthening the process of change, maintaining, supporting and tracking the progress of policy implementation as well as providing capacity-building assistance. Hosted by Morocco and opened by Moroccan Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi, the 2009 Ministerial Conference of the MENA Initiative on Governance and Investment for Development is scheduled to take place on 23 November 2009, in Marrakech, Morocco. The conference will be preceded by a Business and Governance Day on 22 November 2009.

The first meeting of the MENA-OECD Working Group on SME Policy, Entrepreneurship and Human Capital Development was held back-to-back with the 4th meeting of the MENA-OECD Enterprise Financing Network. Participants discussed horizontal policies relating to SMEs, including policies for high-growth enterprises, access to finance and skills development, in addition to debating the effects of the global financial and economic crisis on the region.
