The Good Governance for Development (GfD) in Arab Countries Initiative aims at modernising public governance in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through dialogue among policy practitioners from MENA and OECD countries. By improving the environment for entrepreneurs, investors and job creation, it works towards sustainable development of the region.[more]

Arab states have been actively reforming public management systems over the past five years. This report, the first in a bi-annual series, includes country case studies and datasets for nine countries from the region and covers nine topics of public management reform.

The Palestinian National Authority is in the process of state building and implementing the “Palestinian National Plan (PNP) for 2011-13”. This workshop was organised with the MENA-OECD Governance Programme to support this Plan.

Trust in government and business leadership is a precondition for sustained economic growth over the long term. Participants from 15 MENA countries, 15 OECD countries, international and regional organisations, the private sector and non-governmental organisations met during this Steering Group meeting to discuss policies and actions required to rebuild this trust.

Experts from MENA and OECD countries met in Paris to discuss concrete means for improving gender diversity and equality in government and business. Topics of debate included attracting talent to the public and private sectors, the pros and cons of quotas, and improving women’s access to government and business services.

This working group gathers together the most high ranking e-government officials in MENA countries and invites government experts from OECD countries to discuss key policy issues on the e-government agendas of MENA and OECD countries. The members of the working group also design a plan of activities and provide directions and support for their implementation.

High level delegates from 17 OECD and MENA countries, as well as several international organisations, participated in this regional workshop which brought together policy-makers, experts and researchers to debate on public policy evaluation and to define common actions to meet the public governance challenges faced by the MENA countries.

This study visit was organised to develop a coherent programme of work and prepare the first activities of the Regional Centre for Expertise in Regulatory Quality in Tunisia. This Centre provides expertise for Arab countries in improving regulatory policy and therefore reinforces the Rule of Law and legal security for citizens and business.
