This note presents key findings for Norway from Society at a Glance 2014 - OECD Social indicators. This 2014 publication also provides a special chapter on: the crisis and its aftermath: a “stress test” for societies and for social policies.
Norway’s economy has continued to prosper, but the financial system needs to be resilient against possible systemic risk, and a vibrant entrepreneurial culture will be important to maintain sustainable growth in the future.
This diagnostic report identifies 12 skills challenges for Norway which were distilled from a series of interactive diagnostic workshops held with a range of stakeholders. It marshals a wide array of relevant OECD evidence to shed further light on these challenges. It also offers some concrete examples of how other countries are tackling similar skills challenges.

Two rounds of the Survey of Adult Skills are under way: Round 1 (2008-13) with 24 participating countries, whose results were released in October 2013, and Round 2 (2012-16) with 9 participating countries, whose results will be released in 2016. A third round is scheduled to begin in May 2014.

This report provides an overview of the substantial ageing and employment policy initiatives already implemented in Norway over the past decade and identifies areas where more should be done, covering both supply-side and demand-side aspects.
To give better incentives to carry on working, the report recommends further reforms in the second-pillar pension schemes, particularly for public sector employees. On the side of employers, it is important to progress towards more age-neutral hiring decisions and to review of age limits for mandatory retirement.
To improve the employability of older workers, the focus should be to promote job-related training with a particular focus on mid-career workers and to encourage initiatives based on a full-time culture and good working conditions for all.
