Seventh Meeting of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, 28-29 October, in Berlin, Germany

21/10/14-Boosting international cooperation in tax matters will be at the top of the agenda of the 7th meeting of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, to be held in Berlin, Germany on 28-29 October.

The Global Forum is the world’s largest network for international cooperation in the field of taxation and financial information exchange, bringing together  122 countries and jurisdictions plus the European Union. The Berlin meeting will see attendance of more than 200 delegates from  95 member jurisdictions and 12 international organisations, for  discussions on new steps to accelerate international cooperation against tax evasion.

Global Forum members will discuss planned improvements to the existing standard on exchange of information on request, including introduction of a new requirement that information be available on beneficial owners of legal entities.

Global Forum members are also expected to announce their commitments to implement the new international standard on automatic exchange of information.

Finance Ministers from a number of countries and jurisdictions will sign a Multilateral Competent Authority agreement on implementation of the automatic exchange of information standard, signaling a new step towards greater transparency. The standard, developed by the OECD in cooperation with G20 countries,  will facilitate tax authorities’ access to financial information and boost worldwide efforts to crack down on tax evasion.
