Official visit of the Secretary-General to Finland (Helsinki, 19-20 January 2009)

 

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría was in Helsinki for a two day official visit to attend the Solemn Seminar which marked 40 years of Finnish membership to the OECD. During his trip, he met:

  • Ms Tarja Halonen, President of Finland

  • Mr Matti Vanhanen, Prime Minister

  • Mr Mauri Pekkarinen, Minister of Economic Affairs

  • Mr Jyrki Katainen, Minister of Finance

  • Mr Paavo Väyrynen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development 

  • Ms Paula Lehtomäki, Minister of Environment,
     
  • Ms Henna Virkkunen, Minister of Education

  • Ms Mari Kiviniemi, Minister of  Public Administration and Local Government

  • Mr Lauri Ihalainen, Chairman, Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK)

  • Mr Leif Fagernäs, Director General, Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK)

  • Mr Pentti Hakkarainen, Deputy Governor, Bank of Finland
     

In addition to these bilateral meetings, he gave a keynote speech at the "Solemn Seminar" marking 40 years of Finnish membership to the OECD. Mr Matti Vanhanen, Prime Minister of Finland, Mr Paavo Väyrynen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development and Mr Pertti Salolainen, Chairman of the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee also gave speeches during this event.
 
Finally, Angel Gurría spoke at the seminar "The Challenge of the Financial Crisis and Faith in Multilateralism" organised by the Finnish Institute of International Affairs.


A press conference took place after his meeting with Prime minister, Mr Matti Vanhanen.
