13/02/2009 - Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD, and Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will open the OECD Global Forum on Competition and hold a news briefing on competition policy and the economic crisis on Thursday 19 February 2009.

This year’s Global Forum will bring together high-level competition officials from around the world to discuss the importance of competition and the role of competition authorities in the global economy, with particular regard to the potential conflicts between competition policy and industrial policies and national champions; how the informal economy may affect the balance of a competitive market; whether and how the public interest does or should take precedence over competition policy in times of economic crisis; and how young competition authorities can best learn from their more experienced colleagues.

The opening addresses will take place at 09.30 a.m. and the news briefing at 10.00 a.m. at the conference venue, OECD headquarters, 2 rue André Pascal, Paris 75016.

Frédéric Jenny, Chair of the OECD Competition Committee, will also take part in the briefing. It will be in English with French interpretation and broadcast live on the OECD’s website.
