Private pensions are acquiring an increasing importance in Jordan. The Royal vision is to extend the social protection network to include all citizens in the Kingdom. Moreover, the amendments made to the social security law, introducing ceilings to pension salaries, make private pension insurance products of particular appeal to citizens interested in increasing their pension incomes.

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in partnership with the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) Genomics Network (EGN) will host a major Forum on 6-7 December 2010 at the OECD Headquarters in Paris. This Forum will review how knowledge in the life sciences is governed, shared, regulated and managed, and to explore new linkages between the life sciences and information and communication technologies.

The UN OSAA, OECD and NEPAD have joined forces to improve international and regional co-operation for growth and development in Africa. This partnership and the first results of their joint work were launched at a public briefing and press conference at UN Headquarters in New York on 11 October.

This event attracted 90 participants from 23 countries, including representatives from HEIs, regional governments, OECD country delegations, OECD and international organisations such as the EU, UNESCO IIEP, World Bank and Lumina Foundation. The meeting provided opportunities for shared learning between the cities and regions taking part in the OECD reviews of HE in regional and city development to discuss the key issues arising from the reviews, such as widening access and talent attraction, regional innovation, Green Growth and urban regeneration.
