In December 2004, the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the GHS requested that the OECD examine possibilities to develop classification criteria for ozone depleting substances in cooperation with the Conference of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol and develop first a detailed comparison of classification systems in countries/regions. The detailed comparison was submitted to the Sub-Committee in July 2006 and the Sub-Committee agreed that the work should continue and that it would consider any proposal or option in this respect for final decision.

L'Organisation de coopération et de développement économiques (OCDE) et la Banque mondiale sont convenues de renforcer leur coopération dans un certain nombre de domaines clés, et notamment d'intensifier leurs efforts pour promouvoir une croissance durable et sans exclus dans les économies émergentes, l'économie du changement climatique, l'aide à l'appui des échanges et l'établissement de cadres nationaux généraux pour l'investissement.

L'action visant à lutter contre le changement climatique devra être conduite pour l'essentiel dans les pays en développement, mais il incombe aux pays développés d'en assumer le coût dans sa majeure partie, a estimé le Secrétaire général de l'OCDE, Ángel Gurría, dans un discours prononcé aujourd'hui à Bali, où se tient la Conférence des Nations Unies sur les changements climatiques.

Testing a Representative Set of Nanomaterials – The Launch of a Sponsorship Programme

OECD’s Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials, has launched a “sponsorship programme” in which countries will share the testing of specific nanomaterials (MNs). Much valuable information on the safety of MNs can be derived by testing a representative set for human health and environmental safety. In launching this “sponsorship programme” the Working Party agreed a priority list of MNs for testing (based on materials which are in or close to commerce) as well as a list of endpoints for which they should be tested. The OECD will be making regular updates on this programme.

The OECD Workshop on the application of the GHS classification criteria to HPV chemicals was held in Bern (Switzerland) on 5-6 July 2007. The Workshop was a joint activity of the Task Force on Harmonization of Classification and Labelling and the Task Force on Existing Chemicals. It was prepared by a Steering Group including the members of the bureaus of the two Task Forces.
