The Canadian Categorization Results (CCR) and AGRITOX - Base de données sur les substances actives phytopharmaceutiques were recently added as new participating data sources in eChemPortal, the Global Portal to Information on Chemical Substances. eChemPortal provides direct links to collections of information prepared for government chemical review programmes at national, regional, and international levels.

One of the major new features in version 2.1 of the OECD QSAR Toolbox is the availability of estimates of pKa for more than 100000 chemicals. Following an agreement with the company ChemAxon, pKa estimates have been generated with Chemaxon’s pKa calculator and stored in the Toolbox. The availability of these estimates will greatly enhance the potential of the Toolbox to predict the behaviour of chemicals in the environment as well as their effects in animals and humans.

The OECD convened an expert workshop on Mobilising Private Sector Finance for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use on 9 March 2011. Increasing levels of finance for biodiversity will be necessary to help achieve more effective conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and the ecosystem services they provide.

The purpose of the study is to examine the medium-term budget planning process in Ukraine and the extent to which this approach is used within the environmental sector. It aims to assist the Ukrainian government to integrate environmental programmes more effectively into overall programming, financial planning and budgeting practices which could result into more adequate and predictable allocations to the environment sector. The study also seeks to analyse the implications of the progressive shift in aid modalities towards sectoral and general budget support.

Public and private financing for climate action will need to be scaled up significantly in the coming years. Indeed, the Cancún Agreements call on developed countries to provide new and additional resources for climate actions: USD 30 billion over 2010-2012 and a longer term goal of $100 billion per year by 2020. The OECD is ready to assist countries in their efforts to find lasting solutions to finance action on climate change, building on the long-standing work of the organisation to share country experiences and identify lessons learnt and policy recommendations for good practice.

Les services d’eau et d’assainissement génèrent d’importants bénéfices pour la santé publique, l’économie et l’environnement. Cependant, les décideurs politiques ne sont souvent pas suffisamment informé sur l’étendue de ces bénéfices ce qui les empêche de faire les meilleurs choix d’investissement. L’objet de ce rapport est de réunir et de résumer les données existantes sur les bénéfices qui découlent de l’investissement dans les services d’eau et d’assainissement, afin de contribuer à sensibiliser les décideurs et responsables des politiques.

This report presents the results of an OECD Seminar (OECD, Paris, May 2010) that reviewed various key issues associated with risk reduction through prevention, detection and control of the illegal international trade in agricultural pesticides. The seminar recommend the setting of an OECD network of experts and inspectors knowledgeable and active in fighting illegal trade of pesticides that could be used for rapid exchange of information on suspicious or rejected shipments.
