This study provides an insight on whether a systematic inclusion of releases and transfers from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)  in national PRTRs would improve the current knowledge of industrial pollution as a whole. The study concludes that in order to be able to cover the remaining releases and transfers from SMEs, diffuse sources should be included in PRTRs.

Council adopts Resolution on the Implementation of the SAICM

A Resolution on the Implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) was adopted by Council on 28 March 2008 and welcomed by Environment Ministers of OECD countries and major non-member economies at their meeting at OECD on the 28-29 April 2008.

Revision of OECD Monograph Guidance Document (Rev 3)

Section 4.1.1 of the OECD Monograph Guidance Document has been revised to include text which specifies that Regulatory Authorities should not use the contents of a Monograph from another country as a basis for their regulatory decisions unless the data package upon which a particular Monograph was based has been provided to the Authority, or the owner of the data has granted permission for use of the summary evaluation in a Monograph in lieu of the data.

The International Workshop on Documentary Standards for Measurement and Characterisation in Nanotechnologies was held 26-28 February 2008 at National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg (USA), in co-ordination with ISO, IEC, NIST and the OECD. The participants discussed the development, efficacy, harmonisation and uptake of documentary standards broadly relevant to the field of measurement and characterisation for nanotechnologies. Experts' Meeting on Global Infrastructure Needs: Prospects and Implications for Public and Private Actors

The one-day Experts’ Meeting on future Global Infrastructure Needs took place at OECD Headquarters on 1st October 2004.  It was organised by the OECD’s International Futures Programme (IFP), and brought together 45 high-level government officials and business executives involved in various infrastructure-related activities.

The sixth annual meeting of the EECCA Regulatory Environmental Programme Implementation Network (REPIN) took place on 26-28 September 2004, Yerevan, Armenia. Special attention was devoted to projects on strengthening environmental compliance assurance system in Kyrgyzstan, reforming environmental permitting in Ukraine and other EECCA, and on analysis of the effectiveness and efficiency of economic instruments in Russia and Armenia.

5th Annual Meeting of EECCA Network on Policies and Enforcement

The meeting in Kiev was the fifth annual gathering of enforcement officers and environmental policy makers from environmental authorities in the region of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA). The main result of the meeting were the endorsement of the draft Work Programme of the Network for the period 2003-2006 and the new Term of Reference for the Network.

INECE-OECD Workshop on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Indicators

Responding to growing worldwide interest in developing and applying environmental compliance and enforcement indicators, the OECD and the INECE organised, on 3rd and 4th November, 2003 in Paris, a workshop which assisted enforcement agencies in designing enforcement and compliance indicators and using them for agencies’ performance assessment.
