The first part of this report assesses the feasibility for implementing a debt-for-environment swap between Georgia and some of its creditors. Under certain conditions, such a swap could be feasible and mutually beneficial for both sides. The second part of this study presents five project pipelines in priority environmental sectors that could be co-financed by a debt-for environment swap. Such projects are likely to carry most weight with creditors interested in such swaps.

The main objectives of this survey are to provide an overview of “who is doing what and where”, and to facilitate collaboration between agencies. The Survey is updated regularly, and this version includes responses received by January 2006.

The Endocrine Disrupters Testing and Assessment (EDTA) Task Force will speed up its validation and reporting activities for test methods in environmental species during 2006-2007.
This includes test methods already on the workplan of the Test Guidelines Programme in the area of fish testing for potential endocrine disrupters, testing on amphibians for the detection of thyroid disruption, and testing on invertebrates for assessment of ED on development and reproduction.

A new OECD review of environmental policy in the US recommends more efficient use of energy and water as a way to safeguard economic prosperity while protecting the environment and human health. Despite progress in some areas over the past decade, more effort is needed in others. The OECD recommends that the US play a more proactive role in dealing with global environmental concerns. The programme of work of the EAP Task Force for 2006 to facilitate and support the achievement of the EECCA Environment Strategy overall objectives was endorsed by the EAP Task Force and the Project Preparation Committee (PPC) at their third joint meeting on 16-17 November 2005 in Yerevan (Armenia). This report assesses the feasibility for implementing a debt-for-environment swap between the Kyrgyz Republic and its creditors. It concludes that such a swap could be feasible and mutually beneficial if specified conditions are met. The analysis presents a possible model that other indebted countries and their creditors could use to address environmental problems of international significance. Well-designed projects could simultaneously help to alleviate poverty and improve living standards.

New CD-Rom with Initial Assessment Reports for High Production Volume Chemicals

UNEP Chemicals has released a new CD-ROM containing all Initial Assessment Reports for High Production Volume Chemicals from the OECD HPV Chemicals Programme which have been finalised up to October 2005. Appendices 3 & 4 of Decision C(2001)107/FINAL (Green and Amber lists of Wastes) have been revised according to the amendments made to Annexes VIII & IX of the Basel Convention (the Basel lists of wastes), following the 7th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention.
